WPHA periodically engages in special projects that advance the organization’s mission, vision and strategic plan. Those projects are usually funded through external sources and support dedicated time to specific activities.

WPHA currently has a leadership role in two main projects:

  • Diversity Matters. The purpose of Diversity Matters is to increase the diversity of the public health workforce.

  • Wisconsin HealthCorps. The purpose of Wisconsin HealthCorps is to promote access to primary care, provide health education in communities, and promote public and community health workforce development.

WPHA projects share some common themes:

  • Statewide

    • Each project focuses on statewide system or infrastructure priorities. Some projects have a local component that contributes to statewide impact.
  • Partnerships

    • Each project places an emphasis on partnership, either through strengthening current relationships or creating new ones. The partnerships are frequently at multiple levels (e.g., core partners plus and advisory group).
  • Assessment

    • Each project employs environmental scans as a means to understand the project’s context and respond accordingly. Identifying opportunities and threats helps to develop improved and/or new initiatives, interventions and strategies.
  • Best Practices

    • Each project identifies and uses strategies that are known to be effective. Sometimes the project itself is a best practice, and sometimes the project’s product or activity is a best practice.
