4-H Milwaukee

The four H’s stand for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health, and signify the development of the whole person.  4-H is an informal, educational youth organization, and our county has a large and active program.  You’ll be involved in year-round project work and club and county activities, local community service and learn valuable life skills through your 4-H participation.

AHEC Health Careers Summer Camps

Found in a variety of locations across the state, Health Career Camps provide high school students the opportunity to explore health careers through a variety of hands-on experiences. The program also includes diversity awareness and leadership skills training. 


Cientificas de Milwaukee is a group dedicated to promote STEM education for young Latina students attending Milwaukee Public Schools.

College Possible

College Possible makes college admission and success possible for students through an intensive two-year curriculum of coaching and support.” College Possible started in St. Paul, MN, and now has program sites in multiple cities including Milwaukee. 

Community Health Internship Program (CHIP)  

An 8-week summer internship from June to July. College students interested in community health submit an application through a competitive process.  Selected students develop local research projects at health departments across the state; the health departments provide mentorship for the students.



MCW has launched DRIVE, a program pairing high school students at the Milwaukee Academy of Science (MAS) and the High School of Health Sciences (HS2) in Kettle Moraine with MCW scientists to engage in public health research. DRIVE, a program created and sponsored by MCW provides high school students with the opportunity to identify a public health issue in the Milwaukee community, conduct scientific research aimed at addressing the issue and draft a project proposal with the possibility of submitting for grant funding.

The overall aim of the partnership is to connect high school students with real scientific work and authentic educational experiences that highlight a path to postsecondary education and career training. The DRIVE program also allows students the opportunity to address issues of genuine concern in their communities by using scientific research and methodology. DRIVE VIDEO    

Earn and Learn- Milwaukee

EARN & LEARN is a summer youth employment program initiated by Mayor Tom Barrett in partnership with local business, non-profit, and community- and faith-based organizations. EARN & LEARN assists young people from Milwaukee in making a successful transition from adolescence into adulthood through job skills and work experience.

Health Career Opportunity Program - Marquette University

The Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) at Marquette University is a federally funded program that provides opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are interested in health professions. Our programs range from recruitment efforts at local middle schools to retention of students enrolled in professional programs at Marquette.

The Medical College of Wisconsin provides several summer enrichment programs for high school and college students.  Open to students who attend a high school in the Milwaukee Public School (MPS) system, Milwaukee charter or surrounding suburban school district.

MCNBNA is committed to promoting health careers/professions and providing annual scholarships and support to nursing students.

Pearls for Teen Girls - College Ready

In support of our mission to empower girls to achieve their goals and dreams, PEARLS is committed to equipping our girls with the knowledge, resources, and tools they need to define and successfully navigate their academic and professional paths.

Lead by Elizabeth Mueller, College and Career Readiness Coordinator, programming includes: college preparation events and campus visits at local colleges and universities; opportunities for girls to explore careers through job shadowing, networking events with corporate partners, and mentoring; extensive support for girls as they navigate job, college, and scholarship applications with the opportunity to be paired with a volunteer College and Career Coach; and deliberate integration of academic success planning and career development in the PEARLS Leadership Compass curriculum.
