 PRESENTATION SUMMARY

Strokes are the fifth leading cause of death in America and contrary to belief up to 80% of strokes are preventable with early recognition and intervention. The aim of this project is to educate the Green Bay community on basic stroke prevention and detection so that strokes can be detected earlier. A presentation was given on stroke signs, symptoms and risk factors, with a pre-test gauging knowledge, and a post-test assessing improvement. We compared the overall performance change (n=22) on the 10-question test. Mean test scores rose from 64% (pre seminar) to 84% (post seminar). Statistical analysis using a paired t-test computed a p-value of 0.0063. Overall the presentation was effective at raising awareness of stroke symptoms and prevention in the local Green Bay community.
