The WI Division of Public Health and the WPHA are seeking high caliber applicants for the twenty-second class of the Mid-America Regional Public Health Leadership Institute (MARPHLI). The 2014-2015 MARPHLI theme, Capacity Building for Population Health Improvement, will provide Fellows a unique opportunity to build personal leadership skills, professional networks, and to interact with national public health experts. Please review the flyer to learn more about MARPHLI, including eligibility requirements and key dates for the 2014-2015 MARPHLI program.

The Wisconsin Division of Public Health (DPH) will be sponsoring two teams of six individuals each to receive scholarships to participate in MARPHLI for the 2014-2015 session. DPH will pay the tuition cost for each of the Fellows selected to represent the Wisconsin Teams. Additional funding may be available to support up to $1500 per person toward travel costs. Preference in selecting the Wisconsin MARPHLI Teams will be given to: three staff from DPH (ideally, not from the same Bureau), five local health department staff (ideally, one from each region), three non-governmental public health partners, and one tribal health representative. The WPHA will recommend one of the Fellows. Non-governmental public health partners to be considered for the MARPHLI Teams include representatives from these areas: clinical care, business, community-based organizations, faith-based institutions and other stakeholders.

Local and tribal health department representatives, non-governmental public health partners and DPH employees interested in being a part of the Wisconsin MARPHLI Teams should complete the application and email it to Kim Whitmore at no later than September 9, 2014. WPHA members who wish to be considered for the WPHA scholarship should also include in their application a brief statement of how they how they might use their learnings from the experience to enhance their role as a WPHA member.* Requests will be reviewed by DPH staff and WPHA representatives. Those selected to represent the Wisconsin MARPHLI Teams will be notified no later than September 22, 2014.

DPH is also seeking two experienced public health leaders to serve as mentors for the 2014-2015 Wisconsin MARPHLI Teams. If you are interested or could recommend someone to serve in this important role, please let Kim Whitmore know as soon as possible. All travel-related expenses for mentors are covered by the MARPHLI program.

*WPHA scholarship recipients may be asked to share their experience with the board and/or members.
