To our fellow WPHA Members,

These are unprecedented times. Not only has our normal existence ceased to occur, but for many of you reading this letter, you’re also working on the front lines of the COVID-19 response. You’re working crazy hours and possibly putting yourself and your family at risk to protect your community. Even if you aren’t directly on the front lines of the COVID-19 response, you’re likely supporting those who are, putting aside your usual job duties to assist those on the front lines. We see you. And we thank you!

We all came into the public health for different reasons. What we have in common is the desire to make life better for the people in the places we live. Sometimes we struggle with describing how meaningful our work is because it happens in homes, restaurants, board rooms and even bath rooms! But this is our time. This is our chance to shape the narrative of public health and let everyone see just how relevant and important we are. Take pride in this experience and know that you are adding life to years by doing what you do every day.

Your WPHA regional reps are right there with you. We see you, we hear you, we thank you, we applaud you, and we’re here for you.

We’re going to be looking into ways we as an organization can help support you all during this crisis so you can maintain your superhero activities as well as your own health. We’re going to focus on providing tips, resources, and a platform for providing self-care. Taking care of yourself is the best thing you can do to continue to support your community, your family, and yourself. We’re going to focus on providing a menu of activities ranging from those that take no time, or very little time to those that may require more of a time commitment, but all making a big difference in your health and well-being.

Look for more to come soon. In the meantime, please know we see you, we appreciate you, and we’re here for you. Feel free to reach out to your regional rep or WPHA board members with any questions or ideas you may have to help support this effort.

Stay well,

WPHA Regional Representatives
