Hi Everyone!

My name is Dana Fischer and I am excited to step forward as the chair of the Public Health Dental Hygiene section for WPHA. I have been a member of WPHA since 2012 and I am looking forward to getting more involved as a section chair.

I entered the dental public health world in 2014 when I joined Children’s Health Alliance of Wisconsin as the project manager for the Healthy Smiles for Mom and Baby project. In my role I work with public health nurses, community dental clinic staff and WIC dieticians and nutritionists to improve the oral health of pregnant women and children in Wisconsin. In addition I work with dental hygienists serving in public health roles within local public health departments, federally qualified health centers and dental hygiene training programs to improve access to preventive oral health services. I am eager to take on the role of section chair and work with you to see how WPHA members can impact oral health.

The Public Health Dental Hygiene section has been inactive since 2016 and I am looking forward to working with existing section members to revitalize the group.

The goals I have for 2019 are:

  • Update the section name to “Oral Health Section” or “Dental Public Health” section to be more inclusive to the types of professionals working to improve oral health in their communities.
  • Update the purpose statement and resources for the section and recruit members to get involved.
  • Draft a resolution supporting dental public health workforce models that improve access to care.

I look forward to hearing from current members and recruiting additional members to re-energize the group, envision the type of activities we want to accomplish and see how we can align ourselves to move the WPHA legislative priorities forward. If you have ideas or are interested in working on these plans, please reach out to me . I’ll be sharing a more formal request in the upcoming months.

If you haven't been a member recently, now is the time to recommit - WPHA needs our voices as Wisconsin Oral Health professionals!

I look forward to working with you!

Dana Fischer
