What can public health professionals and agencies do to reduce the health effects of immigration on our communities’ residents?

  1. Publicly state agency commitment to serve all people regardless of immigration status
  2. Post signs in the top languages spoken in your area of service
  3. Use qualified interpreters and/or bilingual staff
  4. Do not collect identifiable data that includes immigration status
  5. Craft wording about program eligibility carefully, to prevent inadvertent documentation of immigration status.
  6. Create, review, and know your policies about ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement)
  7. Support local government policies that support immigrants
  8. Support legal funds set up to represent immigrants
  9. Be intentional about creating a positive narrative about the value of immigrants
