About the Presenters: Sarah Ferber, EXPO

Sarah Ferber, an Eau Claire resident, has experienced poverty, homelessness, incarceration, and everything in between.  After hitting rock bottom, she connected with resources in the community, allowing her to ascend from her challenges and reestablish her life.  Since then, Sarah has been a diehard advocate for change, challenging the Eau Claire community to rethink the way we view substance use disorder and incarceration, stating the root causes are most often trauma and/or poverty. Sarah is a student at UWEC, set to graduate with a bachelor's degree in social work in December 2018. She is currently the Associate Director of Ex-incarcerated People Organizing (EXPO), a statewide organization led by people who are directly impacted by Wisconsin’s justice system.  EXPO believes those who are closest to the problem of mass incarceration are those who hold the answers to reducing Wisconsin’s jail and prison population. She is an expert by experience, and looks forward to sharing her experience to better our community.
