The Wisconsin Public Health Association (WPHA) is a non-profit association.  The association has nearly 400 members and 30 supporting agency members.  Formed in 1948, it is the largest organization of public health professionals in the State and is a member of the American Public Health Association.

Strategic Plan Goals
The Strategic Plan outlines three goals, each supported by measurable outcomes.  Progress in meeting outcomes is routinely reviewed by the board.  The goal areas are:

Goal #1:  Improve Wisconsin’s health through policy change.

  • Increase funding for Wisconsin public health programs over 2009 baseline by December 2012.
  • Improve health equity in Wisconsin by improving key determinants of health in Wisconsin by December 2012.
  • Increase the number of evidence-based prevention best practices adopted in the state by 2012.

 

Goal #2:  Increase public health capacity and effectiveness through professional development.

  • Increase student involvement in WPHA by 2011.
  • Provide education and training to 1000 (total) public health professionals and partners in Wisconsin by December 2011.
  • Lead the Call to Action and related PH workforce efforts through December 2012.

 

Goal #3:  Strengthen WPHA’s organizational effectiveness through growth and best practices.

  • Increase WPHA membership from 370 individual and 28 organizational members (as of June 2009) to over 1000 members by December 2012.
  • Strengthen organizational effectiveness by adopting best practices identified through assessment and evaluation.
  • Grow the annual operating budget by 10% over 2009 levels and develop a 6-month cash reserve by December 2012.
