Here in Wisconsin, we produce more than 25 billion pounds of milk every year. Now, the debate over raw milk is back on the table in America's Dairyland.

The potential for disease outbreaks far outweighs the unproven health benefits of consumuing unpasteurized.
Another effort is afoot to loosen Wisconsin's restrictions on the sale of raw milk by farmers. A bill introduced by state Sen. Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend) and co-sponsored by state Rep. Chris Danou (D-Trempealeau) would allow raw milk sales to the public with few restrictions.
Study Says Raw Milk Poses Risks |
Most dairy-related disease outbreaks are from raw, unpasteurized milk, a new study from the Centers for Disease Control has found.
Wisconsin Safe Milk Coalition Announced |
A group of state farm groups, health professionals and commerce leaders are banning together to urge lawmakers to reject any efforts to legalize the sales of raw milk. Calling themselves the Wisconsin Safe Milk Coalition, the 15 organizations wrote to members of the state Legislature on Thursday asking them not to co-sponsor a bill that would permit the on-farm sale of unpasteurized milk--which they say is supported by 'a small number of Wisconsin residents who believe the benefits of drinking raw milk outweigh the risks.'
